DAYTON, Ohio – The final seven spots in the 122nd Western Amateur field have been decided after the 18-hole qualifier at NCR Country Club on Sunday.

Mikkel Mathiesen (Wright State), of Beavercreek, Ohio, carded a 5-under 65 to top the 72-player field and qualify for golf's third oldest amateur championship, set to be held July 30-Aug. 3 at Moraine Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.

John Wild (Oklahoma State), of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Jansen Preston (Kentucky), of Lexington, Kentucky, tied for second with a pair of 4-under 66s.

Three players tied for fourth, each posting a 3-under 67, including Cole Imig (Cincinnati), of Birmingham, Alabama; Solomon Petrie (Kentucky), of Akron, Ohio. Connor Gdovin (Bowling Green), of Cleveland, Ohio, also finished at 3-under and advanced to the Western Amateur through qualifying for a second consecutive year.

With seven players tied at 2-under after 18 holes, the final spot in the field would be decided in a sudden death playoff.

Quinn Yost (Nebraska), of Farmington, New Mexico, emerged to advance to the Western Amateur.

First played at Glen View Club in 1899, the Western Amateur regularly attracts the top players from across the country and around the world, with past champions like Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

A combination of stroke play and match play competition make the Western Amateur one of the most demanding events in golf. The international field of 156 players will compete in 72 holes of stroke play over three days to determine the Sweet 16 for match play.
