GLENVIEW, Ill. – The Western Golf Association is adding five iconic venues to its schedule of championship sites, announcing Knollwood Club (2027), Baltimore Country Club (2028), Conway Farms Golf Club (2029), Glen View Club (2030) and Skokie Country Club (2032) as future Western Amateur hosts.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring the Western Amateur – our flagship amateur event – to these historic venues,” said Vince Pellegrino, WGA senior vice president of tournaments. “We look forward to watching how each course tests the world’s top amateurs in its own unique ways over the coming years.”
Renowned as one of the toughest tests in amateur golf, the Western Amateur has been a prestigious national championship since its founding in 1899. Many of golf’s greatest players have etched their names on the George R. Thorne Trophy, while countless others have struggled to conquer its grueling format.
Four of the newly announced venues reflect the Western Amateur’s deep roots in the Chicago area, long considered the championship’s competitive and organizational home. The fifth will bring the historic championship to the East Coast, a region that has become an area of rapid growth for the event’s sole beneficiary, the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, will host the 2027 Western Amateur July 26-31, marking the event’s return for the first time since 2016, when Dylan Meyer outlasted Sam Horsfield. Knollwood has hosted the 1956 U.S. Amateur and multiple U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships (1981, 1982) and will also host the 2026 Western Junior, becoming the first club to host the Western Junior and Western Amateur in consecutive years.
Baltimore Country Club in Lutherville, Maryland, will host the 2028 Western Amateur (July 31-Aug. 5) on its East Course, marking the championship’s first appearance in the Baltimore area. The club will also host the 2026 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2031 U.S. Women’s Amateur, further cementing its place among the nation’s premier championship venues.
The championship returns to Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest in 2029 (July 30-Aug. 4), its first appearance there since John Hahn’s victory in 2009. Conway Farms has also hosted three BMW Championships, conducted by the WGA, along with the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur and the 1997 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship.
Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois, will host the championship for the fourth time in 2030 (July 29-Aug. 3). The club that hosted the first Western Amateur in 1899 will help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Evans Scholars Foundation, founded by the WGA and eight-time Western Amateur winner Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. in 1930. Glen View Club most recently hosted the 2021 event, where rising PGA TOUR star Michael Thorbjornsen claimed the title over Gordon Sargent. Glen View’s championship history includes the 1902 U.S. Amateur, 1904 U.S. Open and five Western Opens.
Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois, will host its fourth Western Amateur championship in 2032 (July 26-31). Skokie hosted last year’s Western Amateur, won by Jase Summy, and boasts a championship resume highlighted by the 1922 U.S. Open and 1998 U.S. Senior Amateur.
Host sites for the 2031, 2033, 2034 and 2035 Western Amateur championships will be announced in the future.
